چکیده

The work reported here quantitatively addresses conspicuity of highway features, and in Caltrans work zones -from the perspective of driver detection, and to some extent, driver decision making. It was initially focused on acquiring and operating on a computational visual signature analysis tool, but it evolved into evaluating the detection process, then selecting and exercising human perception-acquisition models suitable for relatively quick running and larger scale microsimulations to evaluate system effectiveness of Òpre-AHSÓ driver-assist systems. This process and especially the recommended Bailey-Rand Contrast Model is described, and an detection example of a driver-assist collision avoidance model is provided.

A Computational Vision Model-based Method to Address Work Zone Conspicuity

A computational means to assess the conspicuity of highway features was developed, verified, then applied to a sample construction work zone scene. This work was conceived as a balance between modeling the complex phenomena within the human visual system and the need for a simple applicationsoriented tool for practitioners to derive a quantitative relative assessment of real world construction ...

Health Security for Ship Crew in The Framework under the Maritime Labor Convention 2006

Abstract  According to the World Health Organization in 2007, peoplechr('39')s vulnerability to severe, rapid and new threats to their health security must be reduced. Because most people today feel insecure about worries about their daily lives, it is essential to create a new environment in which health security becomes a basic concern for all. Meanwhile, the marine crew needs special attent...

An Evaluation of Traffic Control Devices and Driver Distraction on Driver Behavior at Railway-highway Grade Crossings

The U.S. railroad system is made up of over 700 railroads operating on 140,000 miles of track, with more than 130,000 at-grade public railway-highway crossings, or intersections in which any part of a roadway intersects with railroad tracks. Safety at these railroad-highway grade crossings and the related traffic control devices used to communicate with drivers is of major concern. There are th...

Draft Technical Report Nighttime Conspicuity of Highway Signs as a Function of Sign Brightness, Background Complexity and Age of Observer by

Introduction The nighttime conspicuity (i.e., detection) of highway signs is highly dependent upon brightness. However, the enhancement in conspicuity due to increasing sign brightness appears to " saturate " at relatively low luminance levels. (1) This suggests that the introduction of ultrabright signing materials will do little to improve the delectability of highway signs. There is some evi...

Developing EOP materials for Pre-service Cabin Crew: A text-driven approach

One prominent criterion to achieve efficient learning and instruction in an educational setting is the appropriate material(s) specifically developed for that particular group of learners, particularly in an English for Occupational Purposes (EOP) context. This study aimed at developing new EOP materials for pre-service cabin crew in an aviation school. To do so, initially the researchers perfo...
